Not every customer wants a black monitor. Soft pink, mint green, light blue and lavender can give a desk a different look. Colored monitor customization lets buyers match the monitor to their keyboard, mouse and other desk accessories.

But getting the right color takes more than picking a shade. The production method affects the cost, finish and how scratches will look over time.

Why Distributors Should Look Beyond Black Monitors

If you distribute monitors, give buyers a choice beyond black. Someone shopping for a pink monitor may want it to match a keyboard, headset or desk. A white computer monitor can suit a bright home office, while a white gaming monitor can complete an all-white gaming setup.

There is search interest behind these choices. In the U.S. Semrush exports dated November 3, 2026, “white monitor” shows an estimated 2,900 average monthly searches. “Pink monitor” and “pink pc monitor” each show 1,600. These are search estimates, not sales figures, and the audiences can overlap.

Use that interest to guide your product mix. A pink computer monitor gives your store another way to appeal to buyers who care about how their desk looks. Start with a small range of colors that fits your customers, then check demand before expanding. Size, refresh rate, ports and price still matter; color adds another reason to choose a model.

What We Found on Amazon

Retail listings offer another useful example. On November 3, 2026, the Amazon.com page for the Pixio PX248 Wave Pink displayed “200+ bought in past month.” The Dell S2725HSM Ash White page displayed “4K+ bought in past month.” These are the labels shown on those listings, not verified sales totals for a single color.

What Does “Macaroon Color” Mean?

In monitor sourcing, soft, low-saturation shades are sometimes called Macaroon Color. You may also know them as pastel colors. Think soft pink or pale blue rather than bright neon colors.

The name is inspired by French macarons: small sandwich cookies with almond shells and a filling in the middle. Their colorful shells bring to mind shades such as blush pink, mint green, pale blue, lavender and cream. When used on a monitor, these soft colors bring the same light, gentle look to a desk.

It is a color style, not one fixed shade or a technical color standard. For a custom order, choose the shade you want and confirm it with a physical color sample.

The term describes the monitor’s housing color. It does not refer to the colors on the screen or the panel’s color accuracy.

Color Choice and Design Patents

A color by itself, such as pink or mint green, is not something you can patent as a product design. A specific monitor appearance may qualify for a design patent if it meets the rules in the country where you apply. That design can include the housing’s shape, patterns and color arrangement. Simply choosing a pastel shade does not give a brand patent rights over every monitor in that color.

How We Make Colored Monitor Housings

Yanxun Display uses injection molding for its custom-colored plastic monitor housings. Color is mixed into the plastic material before it is melted and injected into a mold. Once the plastic cools, the housing has both its shape and its color.

This puts the color into the plastic itself. There is no separate paint layer providing the housing color. The process applies to plastic parts; metal parts, such as a metal stand, need a separate finish.

Why Do Custom Colors Cost More Than Black?

Black is the usual starting point for monitor housings, and many production lines regularly run black plastic. Those machines can make other colors, but switching to a light shade takes extra work.

Leftover black material can leave dark specks or streaks in a pink or pale blue housing. Before starting the new color, the factory needs to clear that material out of the machine and clean the mold as needed. Trial parts are then checked for the right shade and a clean finish.

At Yanxun Display, the typical mold-cleaning and color-change setup fee is around RMB 5,000 per changeover. It is a setup charge, not a charge for each monitor. Cleaning, machine downtime and trial production all add work to a custom-color order.

For example, a 300-unit order with one RMB 5,000 setup fee would carry about RMB 16.67 per monitor for that fee alone. This helps explain why a small custom-color run can cost more per unit than a regular black model. Confirm the final setup charge in your quotation.

What About Spray Painting?

Another option is to spray paint the housing after it has been molded. In this case, the color sits on the surface as a coating.

The drawback is wear. Rubbing or scratches can damage the paint, causing it to chip or come off and expose the plastic underneath. How well it holds up depends on the coating and how the surface is prepared.

A housing made from colored plastic can still get scratched or scuffed, but it does not have a separate color coat to peel away. For buyers planning a pastel monitor range, that difference is worth checking on the sample before placing an order.
