Dead Pixel Test
Check your screen for dead, stuck and abnormal pixels.
Start testFree monitor utility
Check your monitor refresh rate and browser frame rate in real time. This free online test uses your browser’s animation timing to estimate the current display refresh rate.
Passive measurement starts automatically. Keep this tab visible for the most useful result.
Browser-based refresh rate measurements are estimates and can be affected by browser performance, power-saving settings, background activity and variable refresh rate technologies.
Visual test
Watch the block move across the track and change its speed to inspect motion smoothness. The animation is calculated with requestAnimationFrame(), not a CSS animation.

Frame pacing
Each visible track covers the same distance at the same physical speed. Only its update frequency changes.

Step by step
If your high refresh rate monitor displays 60 Hz, ensure Hardware Acceleration is enabled in your browser settings.
Monitor refresh rate describes how often a display can update its image and is measured in hertz (Hz). A 60 Hz display can refresh up to approximately 60 times each second, while a 144 Hz display can update more frequently. A higher refresh rate can make compatible motion appear smoother and reduce the visible distance between successive frames. The result still depends on the computer, browser, content and display connection supplying frames at a suitable pace. Refresh rate alone does not determine image quality, response time or overall display performance.
Refresh rate and frames per second describe related but different parts of motion display. Refresh rate is the monitor’s update capability, expressed in Hz. FPS describes how many frames software, a game, video or browser animation produces or presents each second. A system may generate more frames than the display can show, or fewer frames than the display can refresh. Smooth motion generally benefits when frame delivery is consistent and appropriate for the active refresh rate. This browser test estimates both values from animation timing, but it cannot inspect the monitor model, graphics driver settings or cable specification directly.
| Refresh Rate | Frame Time | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| 60 Hz | 16.67 ms | General office work and video |
| 75 Hz | 13.33 ms | General use with moderately smoother motion |
| 100 Hz | 10.00 ms | Productivity and entry-level high refresh use |
| 120 Hz | 8.33 ms | Smooth motion and compatible high-frame-rate video |
| 144 Hz | 6.94 ms | Common gaming refresh rate |
| 165 Hz | 6.06 ms | Higher-refresh gaming |
| 180 Hz | 5.56 ms | Higher-refresh gaming |
| 240 Hz | 4.17 ms | Fast competitive motion |
| 360 Hz | 2.78 ms | Specialized high-refresh gaming |
| 500 Hz | 2.00 ms | Specialized ultra-high-refresh displays |
Frame time is calculated as 1000 divided by the refresh rate.
Common questions
The live result above estimates the active refresh rate from browser animation timing. Compare it with your operating system display settings for confirmation.
It is a useful browser estimate, not a hardware-level measurement. Browser load, power settings, background activity and variable frame timing can affect the result.
Keep this tab active until the reading stabilizes near 144 Hz, then confirm the selected refresh rate in your operating system or graphics settings.
Small differences are normal because browser timestamps, display timing and clock precision do not always produce an exact whole-number result.
The active system setting may be 60 Hz, or browser performance, power saving, a connection limitation or another configuration may be restricting presentation. Check the operating system and graphics settings.
A browser can estimate 240 Hz when animation frames are delivered at that rate, but performance limits or timing variability may reduce accuracy.
Hz describes how often the display can refresh. FPS describes how many frames software or the system produces or presents each second.
The connection and supported modes can affect available refresh rates, but this browser test cannot identify the cable type, port version or negotiated link settings.
Yes. The test works on compatible laptop browsers, although battery-saving settings may reduce animation performance or the active display refresh rate.
No. Variable frame timing may be visible, but a browser cannot reliably confirm whether G-SYNC, FreeSync or another VRR technology is active.
